The Bomb Chip Challenge is the short-video party game that took over YouTube Shorts and TikTok in late 2025. The real-life setup is simple: lay out a grid of chips (or candies, or crackers) on a table. Before the round starts, each player secretly points out a handful of "bomb" positions to a referee — usually spots under the other player's side of the grid. Then players take turns picking a chip and eating it.
Pick a safe chip and you keep going. Pick one of your opponent's hidden bombs and you take a hit — and the tension on people's faces when they hover over a chip is exactly why the format went viral. In most versions of the trend, the first player to hit three bombs loses.

How the online rules map to the real-life challenge

- Taking turns eating chips: players take turns tapping cells on the board. Tapping a safe cell reveals it; you never know for sure what's under a cell someone else touched first.
- Three bombs and you're out: everyone starts with 3 hearts. Hitting someone else's bomb costs 1 heart and ends your turn — lose all 3 and you're eliminated. It's the same "three strikes" tension from the trend.
- Your own bombs are safe: tapping a cell where you hid a bomb publicly defuses it — a genuine strategic move, because it proves a cell was dangerous without costing you anything.
- Stacked bombs: if two players hid a bomb on the same cell, both blow up together, but the unlucky tapper still only loses one heart.
- Winning: lose all 3 hearts and your opponent wins outright. If the whole board gets revealed before that happens, whoever has more hearts left takes it (an even split is called a "Survivors' split").
Most of the viral clips are 1v1, which is exactly what Bomb It defaults to: Duel — two private 3×3 boards where you hide 3 bombs on your opponent's grid and take turns hunting theirs, just like the head-to-head videos. Prefer a shared board instead? Switch the room to the Quick or Classic option before the round starts.
