Board Sizes: Duel, Quick, or Classic
Bomb It is a 2-player game with three different formats to pick from — same core loop, different board and pace.
Every room is 2 players, but the host gets a real choice of format before the round starts. Here's the full table, straight from the game's own logic:
| Format | Board | Bombs per player |
|---|---|---|
| Duel (default) | Two private 3×3 boards | 3 |
| Quick | One shared 4×4 board | 4 |
| Classic | One shared 5×5 board | 5 |
Duel (3×3, 2 players)
The default for 2 players, and the format the original bomb-chip-challenge videos are based on. You don't share a board with your opponent — you each hide 3 bombs on their private grid, then take turns hunting theirs while they hunt yours. Nine cells, three bombs, no shared information. It's the fastest, tightest format in the game — full breakdown on the Duel Mode page.
Quick (4×4, 2 players)
One shared board instead of two private ones. Both players hide 4 bombs on the same 16-cell grid and take turns tapping any unrevealed cell — including cells your opponent might have mined near your own bombs. 4 bombs each on 16 cells is a noticeably faster, punchier round than Classic; it's the pick if Duel's isolated boards feel too quiet and you want to watch your opponent react in real time.
Classic (5×5, 2 players)
The traditional shared-board version at a slower pace: 5 bombs each across 25 cells, more room to maneuver before the board gets dangerous. If Quick feels like it ends before you've formed a read on your opponent, Classic gives the game more room to breathe.
Which one should you pick?
- Fast, private, no shared board: Duel — it's the default for a reason, and it maps directly to the viral video format most people already know.
- Fast, but want to watch your opponent react on the same board: Quick.
- More room to think before the board gets dangerous: Classic.
Whichever format you land on, the core loop stays the same: hide bombs, take turns, don't blow up. See the full rules or jump into the strategy guide once you've played a round or two.
